Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers, LLP, is saddened to announce the passing of Atlanta-based partner and beloved colleague Richie Foster. Foster passed away on April 6, 2021, at the age of 55. He was a leader known for his wisdom, creativity and knack for forming real relationships with everyone he met. He was a true trial lawyer with strong feelings about how to practice law, try a case and relate to those on a jury. He willingly shared his knowledge and was a great mentor to many.

Dowdey, III, has been selected to take over command of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 10th Legal Operations Detachment, which falls under the U.S. Army Reserve Legal Command out of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Dowdey’s appointment will take effect on June 22, 2019, and will make him one of just 23 Legal Operations Detachment commanders nationwide. In addition to this announcement, Dowdey will also be promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps.

The 2018 Business Development Symposium is to be held on April 19, 2018, at the State Bar of Georgia from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and is co-sponsored by the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA), the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association, and Gate City Bar Association. Additionally, Swift Currie again will serve as one of the sponsoring firms for the State Bar of Georgia Diversity Program’s High School Pipeline Program, which is held in partnership with the Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys and Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. Casey Jr., Erica Morton and Richie Foster, who most recently worked at Carlock, Copeland & Stair LLP. The new partners will bolster Swift Currie’s practices in trucking, retail and liability insurance litigation. Swift Currie and the new partners have shared clients for years – sometimes in different practice areas – making for an ideal union. Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers LLP, is pleased to announce that Birmingham-based senior attorney Carl “Trey” Dowdey, III, was selected as the staff judge advocate for the 412th Theater Engineer Command (TEC) out of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The 412th TEC is a two-star command in the U.S. Army Reserve with over 12,000 soldiers. Dowdey currently serves with the 2nd Legal Operations Detachment, based out of New Orleans. The new partners are Atlanta-based attorneys Ashley Alfonso, Ken Brock, Mark Irby, Marion Martin, Jeff Stinson and Drew Timmons. Bradford Marsh has been reappointed to the State Bar of Georgia Formal Advisory Opinion Board and the State Bar Disciplinary Board-Review Panel. Marsh was reappointed to both by State Bar President Brian D. “Buck” Rogers. As a member of the Formal Advisory Opinion Board, Marsh will help draft formal opinions that interpret the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct and address ethical issues related to members of the State Bar of Georgia. In his role on the Disciplinary Board-Review Panel, Marsh will help to investigate and discipline members of the State Bar of Georgia for violations of the bar’s Standards of Conduct.
