01.01.2021

Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers, LLP, is pleased to announce the elevation of three attorneys as new partners in the Atlanta office. Newly named partners, effective Jan. 1, 2021, include Marcus Dean, Christy Maple and Robert Smith. Their promotions bring the firm’s partnership to 68 attorneys.

“We are excited to start the new year with some positive news of Marcus, Christy and Robert’s well-deserved elevation to partnership,” said Terry Brantley, managing partner at Swift Currie. “Their leadership within our firm and the legal community, as well as their dedication to client service, set excellent examples for their colleagues and peers, and we look forward to building upon our firm’s and clients’ success as we head into 2021 with this bright group of attorneys as partners with our firm.”

Marcus Dean represents clients in matters relating to insurance coverage, commercial litigation, automobile litigation and premises liability, including providing counsel in multimillion-dollar lawsuits. He also advises clients in the resolution of claims involving arson, fraud, breach of contract, negligence and many other insurance-related and commercial disputes. Dean has successfully tried cases, obtained summary judgment and argued motions for his clients in state and federal courts. He also serves on Swift Currie’s Hiring and Diversity Committees and has served as the chairperson for the Associate Liaison Committee for multiple years. Dean earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and law degree from Charlotte School of Law.

Christy Maple practices in the areas of insurance coverage and commercial litigation with an emphasis on third-party liability insurance coverage matters, including bad faith litigation. She also practices in the areas of first-party property insurance and fidelity insurance. Maple currently represents businesses in a range of liability insurance coverage issues, including construction defect claims and long-tail losses under commercial general liability policies. Her clients include premier, multinational insurance and claims management companies. Maple earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and her law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

Robert Smith represents employers, insurance companies and servicing agents in matters related to Georgia workers' compensation law. In situations where trial is not the ultimate goal, his courtroom experience allows him to better assist clients in all other aspects of cases from the initial phases of investigations and legal opinions through settlement negotiations.
