Governmental Relations

Overview

In a highly regulated industry such as insurance, government activity can impact a business as much as the market and similar considerations do. Our governmental relations practice gives insurance companies and related trade associations — collectively encompassing one of the largest property and casualty insurers and nearly all of the life insurance assets in the nation — a voice before Georgia’s General Assembly and Office of Insurance. With more than 35 years of experience in governmental relations and thriving, established practices representing insurance companies in a broad array of areas, we leverage our deep understanding of our clients’ businesses and the strong relationships we’ve built with Georgia legislators and regulators on both sides of the aisle to advocate for our clients’ best interests in these arenas.

We offer our clients a full range of state government representation, from addressing specific, issue-oriented concerns to providing general, year-round representation. Each year as the state legislative session kicks off, we begin the process of assessing issues and political trends, thereafter representing our clients in promoting, approving or opposing bills. During the “off season,” we track committee and task force meetings and general discussions that have the potential to significantly affect the industry and our clients’ businesses. Throughout all of this, we monitor state legislative and regulatory activity to keep clients abreast of developing issues that may affect their interests and those of their insureds.
