Swift Currie Partner Appointed as Vice Chair of DRI's ALI Insurance Task Force
Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers LLP, is pleased to announce that Birmingham-based partner F. Lane Finch Jr.
was appointed as vice chair of Defense Research Institute’s (DRI)
American Law Institute Insurance (ALI) Task Force. DRI is the leading
organization of more than 22,000 civil defense attorneys and in-house
counsel. Finch has handled insurance coverage claims for almost 30
years, including insurance coverage claims involving as much as $500
million, as well as class action and other liability claims exceeding
$100 million.
In this role, Finch will help to guide ALI as it is working on Chapters for the Restatement of the Law of Liability Insurance that will address significant insurance coverage issues. DRI’s Task Force will critically examine issues addressed in the ALI Reporter drafts, summarize case law from across the country, and work to ensure that the Chapters reflect the state of existing insurance coverage law.
“The ALI Restatement will have a significant impact on insurance coverage law for decades,” Finch said. “That makes my role as vice chair of DRI’s ALI Insurance Task Force an enormous honor and a great responsibility.”
Throughout his legal career, Finch has advised on insurance coverage, defended bad faith claims and litigated first-party and third-party insurance claims in Alabama and California. He has authored numerous articles on insurance coverage and bad faith and has spoken at national DRI and American Bar Association conferences on those and related subjects. Finch is currently the vice chair of DRI’s Insurance Law Committee and has chaired some of DRI’s largest insurance law conferences.
Finch received his undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University and his law degree from Hastings College of the Law, University of California.
