Defense Verdict Secures Favorable Outcome in High-Exposure Carroll County Trial

Swift Currie attorneys Melissa Segel and Kayla McCallum secured a favorable verdict in a Carroll County trial involving more than $600,000 in medical bills and a $130,000 recommended future surgery. Before trial, the plaintiff submitted demands of $1.2 million, $2 million and $4 million, later asking the jury for over $4.8 million at trial. The jury ultimately returned a verdict of $100,000, assigning 10% of fault to the plaintiff, reducing the verdict to $90,000.

Additionally, because Swift Currie had served a statutory offer of settlement under O.C.G.A. § 9-11-68 for $350,000 in March 2024, the defense is now entitled to recover attorneys’ fees.
