WEBINAR — Signed Under Pressure: Assignment of Benefits and Predatory Tree Service Schemes

Webinar
07.16.2026 | 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm EST

Attorneys Brittney Sizemore and Tessola Duncan will host the webinar "Signed Under Pressure: Assignment of Benefits and Predatory Tree Service Schemes" on July 16, 2026, from 1-2 p.m. Eastern.

Severe weather events often create urgent circumstances for property owners, making them vulnerable to aggressive practices by contractors, including tree and debris removal companies. Many seek Assignment of Benefits (AOB) agreements that transfer policy rights from the insured to the contractor, allowing the contractor to pursue payment directly from the insurer and, in some cases, initiate litigation. These agreements raise significant contractual and policy concerns, and certain claims-handling practices may inadvertently waive defenses to an AOB. This webinar will examine the legal and practical issues surrounding AOBs, discuss emerging trends among tree service companies and provide guidance on preserving policy-based and contractual defenses while avoiding conduct that may result in waiver.

The webinar is pending approval for one general hour of continuing education credit for attendees registered with the Georgia Department of Insurance.
