Crystal McElrath Speaking at 2021 National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas
10.22.2021

Swift Currie partner Crystal McElrath is speaking at the 2021 National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference on Oct. 22, 2021, from 10-11 a.m. McElrath will present, "What to Know, What to Do, Before the Cannabis Legalization Tide Sneaks Up on You."

In light of rapidly evolving laws, the legalization of marijuana raises many concerns for employers and workers’ compensation professionals. These questions range from concerns about ensuring workplace safety, to complying with state drug-free workplace regulations, to securing insurance premium discounts and affirmative defenses to workers’ compensation claims. McElrath will cover the impact of legalized cannabis use on workplaces and present timely tips and strategies for navigating the legalization of marijuana.

Attendees will:

  • Understand the legal framework behind the legalization of cannabis, including the potential confusion where state and federal laws seem to conflict
  • Gain insight into the effectiveness of affirmative defenses under workers’ compensation laws in the wake of legalized marijuana
  • Obtain best practices for crafting workplace safety and workers' compensation policies, particularly with respect to drug testing and anti-discrimination laws

The full conference will be held from Oct. 20-22, 2021, at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will offer tools and ideas you need to propel your workers’ comp and injury prevention programs and stay on top of tomorrow’s trends. Content tracks include Medical/Pharma Management, Claims/RTW, Injury Prevention, Insurance/Risk Finance and more.
