Overview

Tanner S. Townsend is an associate in Swift Currie’s Atlanta office focusing his practice on arson and fraud, bad faith litigation, commercial litigation, insurance coverage and property insurance matters.

Tanner approaches his practice with an emphasis on reliability, determination and stewardship. As a first-generation attorney, he understands the legal system can be difficult to navigate and prioritizes clear, comprehensive communication with clients. He also places particular importance on listening closely to clients’ concerns and approaching their legal issues with the same care and urgency he would expect if the matter were his own.

During law school, Tanner gained experience with several Georgia courts and government offices, including the Georgia Court of Appeals, Bibb County State Court and Houston County District Attorney’s Office. He also previously worked with a plaintiffs’ firm on matters involving general liability, medical malpractice and insurance coverage, giving him additional perspective that he brings to his defense practice. Prior to becoming an associate, Tanner gained experience with Swift Currie as both a summer associate and law clerk, working on first- and third-party insurance matters and commercial litigation in state and federal courts.

Tanner earned his J.D. from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law, where he also earned a Certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research, and Drafting. While in law school, he was inducted into the Order of Barristers and Brainerd Currie Honor Society and received multiple CALI Excellence for the Future Awards. He also competed in the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition, where he was recognized as both a Top 10 Regional Appellate Advocate and Top 10 National Appellate Advocate in 2026. Tanner earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Kennesaw State University.
