Overview
Dennison “Sonny” Romeo is an associate at Swift Currie focusing his practice on insurance coverage, complex commercial litigation, fraud and regulatory matters. Prior to joining the firm, Sonny served with the Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, where he held roles as both an attorney and Legal Division Manager.
In his previous positions, he advised agency leadership on complex regulatory and enforcement matters affecting Georgia’s insurance industry, managed teams handling high-impact legal issues and developed regulatory frameworks designed to balance consumer protection, statutory compliance and market stability. His work included orchestrating an enforcement strategy that resulted in nearly $25 million in penalties against health insurers for mental health parity violations — the largest enforcement action in the agency’s history — as well as designing and defending a framework addressing Affordable Care Act marketplace plan suppression to preserve coverage options for thousands of Georgia residents. He also drafted legislation, administrative rules and policy guidance related to insurance oversight, public adjuster requirements, fire safety compliance and consumer protection initiatives.
Before entering legal practice, Sonny worked as a Capital Projects Analyst for Emory University’s Office of the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, where he managed financial reporting and compliance matters for more than $700 million in healthcare capital projects and grant-funded initiatives.
Sonny earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgia State University College of Law. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia.
