Overview

Richard D. Whitaker is an attorney in Swift Currie’s Birmingham office. His practice covers a broad range of matters, including contract or employment disputes, wrongful death cases, commercial litigation, insurance coverage, Dram Shop actions and trucking litigation.

With over 15 years of experience, Richard has tried cases from small disputes in state district court to multi-million-dollar cases in federal court. He has also handled appeals in state and federal court including presenting oral argument to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

In his practice, Richard treats his clients as partners in their case. By getting to know his clients on a personal level, whether they are large corporations, small businesses or individuals, he is better positioned to provide them with optimal outcomes.

Richard believes in the importance of the legal profession in the community and strives to pass his knowledge along to the next generation of lawyers. Richard is currently the co-chair for the Birmingham Bar Association’s Mentor Program and serves on the Future Leaders Forum Committee, where he is actively involved in mentoring and training young lawyers.

Richard earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law. He received his B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College, where he was a founding member of the college's equestrian team.
