Maureen “Molly” D. O’Connor practices in the firm’s litigation section, handling premises liability, auto, construction, medical malpractice, wrongful death, coverage and contract litigation. Ms. O’Connor has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, first as a claims adjuster and then, after graduating at the top of her class from University of Wisconsin Law School, as an attorney representing businesses, professionals and insurance clients in the defense of auto, general liability claims, professional liability, products liability, construction and related civil suits. In her 14 years as a practicing insurance defense attorney, Ms. O’Connor has won dozens of defense verdicts at bench and jury trials. In addition, her clients have been granted dozens of motions for summary judgment and declaratory judgment due to her advocacy. She has also settled hundreds of cases to her client’s satisfaction and received favorable results for clients at successful mediations.

During her practice, Ms. O’Connor has defended group homes, day care centers, apartment complexes, mental and behavioral health providers, churches and other businesses against negligent security and intentional torts for criminal acts by third parties, such as murder, sexual assault and battery, molestation, rape, armed robbery and shootings. She also tried several criminal cases as a student prosecutor, making her adept at handling the litigation of crimes as they arise in tort matters.

Prior to joining Swift Currie, Ms. O’Connor spent the majority of her practice at another Atlanta law firm. She sits on the Stonewall Bar Association's board of directors and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, Multi-Bar Leadership Council, Atlanta Bar Association and Lawyers Club of Atlanta. She also volunteers her time by mentoring law students and judging moot court competitions.

Ms. O’Connor earned her B.A. in telecommunications/broadcast journalism in 1998 from Indiana University. In 2005, she received her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School after working for two major insurance companies.
