DRI Appoints Swift Currie's Lane Finch and Brian Richardson to Leadership Roles

Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers LLP, is pleased to announce Birmingham-based partner F. Lane Finch, Jr., was recently appointed as chair of the newly formed Staff Counsel Membership Initiative by the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and Birmingham-based associate Brian C. Richardson was appointed as second vice chair for the Construction Substantive Law Group (SLG) of DRI’s Insurance Law Committee. DRI is the leading organization of more than 22,000 civil defense attorneys and in-house counsel.

Finch has been an active member of DRI, and currently serves as vice chair of DRI’s Insurance Law Committee. In his career, Finch has handled insurance coverage claims for more than 30 years, including insurance coverage claims involving as much as $500 million, as well as class action and other liability claims exceeding $100 million. On the Staff Counsel Membership Initiative, Finch will help to ensure the continued growth and future success of DRI by making sure it provides support to attorneys who work for insurance companies as staff counsel across the country.

Finch received his undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University and his law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

The Insurance Law Committee has over 2,700 members. Its Construction SLG collaborates with members to develop up-to-date legal information and other resources related to key coverage issues in the construction industry, including coverage for construction defects, worksite safety, contract and delay claims, professional errors and omissions claims. Richardson has experience representing businesses and individuals in various matters including insurance coverage claims, first- and third-party insurance claims, construction defect, employment, premises liability, products liability, transportation, wrongful death, bad faith and class action litigation.

Richardson received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
