Swift Currie Attorneys Speaking on Panels at 2018 SBWC Annual Education Conference

Attorneys Briggs Peery, Crystal McElrath, Todd Brooks, Lisa Wade and Mark Goodman will speak on panels at the 2018 State Board of Workers' Compensation Annual Education Conference.

Peery is a moderator for the multi-state legal sessions on August 27 and 28 titled, "The Wiz," intended to familiarize attendees with the workers compensation rules and laws in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

McElrath is a panelist on the August 27 legal session titled, "The Curious Case of Travor McManley," at 3:30 p.m. During this session, the audience, along with legal and human resource professionals, screens and critiques the way an employer handles a workers' compensation case.

Brooks is a panelist on the August 28 legal session titled, "All that Jazz: An Interactive Legislative and Case Law Update with a Discussion of Litigation Trends." This session is an interactive panel from legal professionals inclusive of cases that have made it through the courtrooms of the Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Supreme Court and the State Board of Workers’ Compensation Appellate Division from August of 2017 to August 2018.

Wade, alongside additional panelists, will speak during the insurance/self-insurance claims session on August 28 at 1:30 p.m. The session will focus on the first 21 days of a claim and possible curve balls that could be thrown into the equation. The panel will walk attendees through three different loss scenarios that may impact the first 21 days and offer helpful tools and insight to ensure the best outcome for all parties.

Goodman will moderate the ethics session titled, "The Lying King," on August 29 at 9:00 a.m.This panel of “seasoned” participants in the workers’ compensation system will focus upon return to work issues and the light duty accommodation games employers, employees and attorneys play. Scenarios discussed will include the so-called “drive-by" failed efforts to return to work, as well as make-believe, dead-end light duty jobs and the ethical issues presented by these tactics.

The full conference will take place from August 27 to 29 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hotel.
