Joe Angersola to Speak at 2018 ABYC Marine Law Symposium

04.10.2018

Swift Currie partner Joe Angersola is speaking at the second annual American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) Marine Lay Symposium on April 10, 2018, in Charleston, South Carolina. Individuals in the legal and insurance industry, along with marine law enforcement and manufacturer representatives, will gather to help guide attendees through the legal process of boating accidents.

"The agenda includes a review of five actual accidents and lawsuits that have implications for dealers, manufacturers, surveyors, accident investigators, expert witnesses and attorneys," as noted in a press release issued by ABYC. "Additionally, marine law enforcement will examine types of accidents, reporting, what they provide if called into court, and what information attorneys have access to. Attendees will learn the language of litigators and insurance companies and how to protect their business in the event of a lawsuit."

Angersola will speak alongside Wendy Sanders, a senior project engineer at CASE Forensics, during Case Study #3: Lake Lanier Boat Collision. Their topic will cover a recreational boating accident reconstruction involving two open motorboats, and how accident reconstruction techniques established boat paths prior to collision. Attendees will learn about the legal and evidentiary arguments made regarding the boat operator's duty to avoid a collision.
