Overview

James T. McDonald, Jr., handles general civil litigation, including products liability and professional responsibility cases. Mr. McDonald has served as vice chairman and chairman of various committees with the State Bar of Georgia, the Defense Research Institute and the American Bar Association. He has served as vice president and regional vice president for the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel and has served on the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education of Georgia. In 2004, he received the Tradition of Excellence Award by the General Practice & Trial Section of the State Bar of Georgia. Mr. McDonald has been named a Georgia Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine and has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Most recently, he was named the Best Lawyers' 2012 Atlanta Personal Injury Litigation - Defendants Lawyer of the Year. A frequent speaker in various practice areas, Mr. McDonald has appeared throughout the United States at Defense Research Institute seminars and at continuing legal education seminars conducted by the Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association, the Georgia Bar Association, the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys and the Ohio Civil Trial Attorneys. He has also authored and co-authored various articles dealing with defense claims.

Mr. McDonald graduated from The Citadel and the University of Virginia School of Law. He joined the Virginia Bar in 1964 and the State Bar of Georgia in 1967. He served in the JAG Corps of the Air Force before beginning practice in Atlanta in 1968 with Swift Currie.

Awards/Recognitions

In 2004, Mr. McDonald received the Tradition of Excellence Award by the General Practice & Trial Section of the State Bar of Georgia. He has been named a Georgia Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine and has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He is AV® Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and was most recently named the Best Lawyers' 2012 Atlanta Personal Injury Litigation - Defendants Lawyer of the Year.
