Biography
Debra D. Chambers joined Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers, LLP, in 1995 and practices in the workers’ compensation and litigation sections. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Chambers practiced in the area of insurance defense litigation, employment discrimination and workers’ compensation with another Atlanta law firm for three years.
Ms. Chambers is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the State Bar of Georgia, as well as the Employment Law Section. She has been a speaker at the Annual Workers’ Compensation Seminar hosted by the State Board of Workers Compensation, as well as through other venues.
Ms. Chambers has represented both self-insured employers, as well as insurance companies in the defense of workers’ compensation cases, and has appeared before all the judges sitting at the State Board of Workers’ Compensation. She has utilized defenses based upon the affirmative defenses found in O.C.G.A. § 34-9-17, as well as the standard defenses. She has successfully conducted numerous mediations, both at the State Board and with private mediators, for the benefit of her clients.
Prior to, and while attending law school, Ms. Chambers worked for nine years as a Sales Finance Administrator and a Contracts Representative for Hewlett Packard Company. With her business background she has an excellent understanding from the Employer’s perspective on the need to keep costs/expenses down, while achieving a positive result.
Ms. Chambers graduated from California State University in 1983 with a B.S. in Finance, and received her J.D. degree from the Georgia State University College of Law, cum laude, in 1992. While in law school, Ms. Chambers served as the Assistant Managing Editor of the Law Review, was a student member of the Bleckley Chapter of the American Inns of Court and in the Outer Barrister’s Guild. She received the American Jurisprudence Awards in Civil Procedure I and Torts.

Interests/Additional Information
In addition to practicing law, Ms. Chambers is the mother of two young girls and devotes her spare time to watching them develop their athletic skills and compete in cross country, basketball, track and softball, as well as developing their love and appreciation for ballet and jazz dancing and singing. She is active with her children’s school, church and extra-curricular activities.
Ms. Chambers participates in WINGS at Due West United Methodist Church and has particpated as a speaker at North Cobb Christian School's Career Day.
